I am pretty much jealous of this guy

Posted by Will Young

I am pretty much the last person to find out about the viral internet video hits. Mostly because I hate google, and try to spend as little time as possible on any site related to them.

Crystal posted a video of Matt Harding a.k.a. ‘Dancing Matt’ on her blog, and I traveled over to his blog to find these 3 videos.

All I can say, is like most I’m pretty jealous of this guy. Look how much fun he is having!

10 Reasons you SHOULD NOT see The Dark Knight

Posted by Will Young

10 Reasons is how I review films, restaurants, books and music here at Unobjective Intelligence. I lay out 10 reasons why you SHOULD or SHOULD NOT see the movie, eat at the restaurant, read the book or buy the cd. They are listed in order from least important to most important.

**NOTE** I actually like The Dark Knight. I don’t think it is the end-all be-all of movies as most are making it out to be. I certainly do not think that it is Heath Ledger’s best performance and I really do not think that it’s the “best movie of the summer.” With that said, my 10 reasons you SHOULD NOT see the Dark Knight are motivated mainly from the various reasons I hear people say they’re going to see the movie. So, if I mention a reason that has ran through your head to see it, then DON’T…otherwise, have at it.

10 Reasons you SHOULD NOT see The Dark Knight:

10.) Because Christian Bale is hot. Ladies (or gentlemen), you rarely get to see much of the mom-beater outside of his costume, so you might be disappointed if you’re seeing it because you think the Balester is hot stuff.
9.) Because everyone else is. I just heard that everyone else is it stapling their hands to the wall too. EXACTLY.
8.) Because you heard it has killer special effects. The effects are no different than any other movie that’s come out lately. If special effects are your thing save your nine dollars.
7.) Because I heard it’s a great family film. PSSH. (I seriously heard someone say this the other day)
6.) Because from the trailers it looks like there is a ton of action in it. Of course there is a crap load of action in it…Hollywood knows that no one would come see it if it didn’t.
5.) Because you love the Batman franchise. If that’s the only reason you see this movie you’ll probably be let down.
4.) Because it’s a summer blockbuster and I’m a movie buff and **whine** you really really really need to see it. Please PLEASE PLEASE…if you’re a movie buff, don’t go see this movie just because it’s a blockbuster. I really don’t want to listen to you whine about why you were let down.
3.) Because it’s the largest opening-weekend money making film ever. (Look below and see number 1)
2.) Because you think that the only way your co-workers (classmates, or whatever) will think you’re cool is if you go and see it. (Consequently that’s why I went to see it)
1.) Because you miss Heath Ledger and you heard it’s his greatest performance of all time and you feel like you’re paying some sort of homage to him by going and see it. News flash folks: Heath Ledger was way better in Brokeback Mountain, Monsters Ball, A Knights Tale, The Patriot and 10 things I hate about you. You want to “pay homage to Heath Ledger” go rent one of those films.

What does your desktop say about you?

Posted by Will Young

Chris posted a screenshot of his desktop in response to Tony Morgan making a statement about what your desktop says about you. It seemed fun and since I can’t think of creative fun things to do on my own, I decided to semi-participate. So here’s mine (click on it to view full size):

My desktop

That’s my work desktop, my home desktop is the same image, just a few less icons. You don’t need a psychologist to tell you what my desktop says about me. It’s pretty simple: I’m a 23 year old single guy. Rachel Bilson is beautiful. When I get married I’ll replace the picture of Rachel with a picture of my beautiful wife…hopefully I’ll marry Rachel so I don’t have to do that. :-P (What…a man can dream can’t he?!? There’s no shame in my game…or lack thereof.)

Oh Sweet Sweet Staycation…bestill my heart

Posted by Will Young

I have not had to even think about work since Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at 3:30 pm and I’m not going to lie, it’s been pretty freakin sweet.

I’m what you would consider a work-a-holic, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to work.

Up until recently, if you asked me what my idea of a good time was I’d tell you a 12-hour work day. That’s all changed in the last 12 months though. I, like most Americans, now have a job that I absolutely detest. However, also like most Americans, at least the ones fortunate enough to have a job, realize that the likelihood of me finding anything new is slim to none. So I’m pretty much stuck in that place between needing to survive financially while having a job that allows me to do so and being completely dissatisfied with my current job.

Needless to say, this malcontent with my current job has me desiring every opportunity possible to not work. :-) It’s a new concept for someone who at their previous job averaged 60 to 70 hours a week.
I think though, scratch that, I KNOW that where I am at right now, is exactly where I am suppose to be.
Before I was always working, had little time for friends and family and had even went as far as saying “Who needs a significant other, I’m married to my job,” and I didn’t see anything wrong with it. Of course I had become extremely unhealthy, in a physical sense. Obviously waking up at 5 am, being at work by 6 am and working until 7 or 8 o’clock at night, meant that making a healthy dinner was out of the picture. Most nights I’d grab a $ 4.99 large pepperoni pizza, gobble down the whole thing, go to bed, and wake up to start it all over again.
I had become what one would consider a bit of jerk. Ah, who am I kidding, I was more than a bit of a jerk, I would bite peoples heads off all day if they didn’t do things the way I wanted them done. At any rate, it actually got to the point for a little bit that my subordinates would actually elect who they would send in to the office to see what I had for them to do for the day. The worst part about my new found attitude is that I didn’t see it. Of course I was reminded of it on a daily basis, but I refused to believe anyone.
Finally, I ended up quitting. With one weeks notice to boot. I had talked myself into finding a plethora of reasons for despising my job and then I just left. Truthfully, it was probably the healthiest, best decision I’ve made in my adult life. If I had continued on the path I was on, I would have undoubtedly had a heart attack in my late 20’s or early 30’s. I was stressed to the core, sick continually, fat as heck (and for those who don’t know, when you’re not eating healthy and stressed you actually gain more weight than you would if you weren’t stressed and didn’t eat healthy, of course if you weren’t stressed you’d probably eat healthy, so it’s sort of a vicious nasty cycle :-)), and I had really forgot that I had friends and a family.

Now, I’m in a much lower stressed environment, actually the stress in my current job is so low that I create my own stress just so I feel normal, which is in no way normal behavior. However, what I do now, is not what I want to be doing. Actually, it’s not anywhere close to what I want to be doing.

I’ve learned though that I have to embrace this particular point in life as a learning experience. I’m being taught that there is more to life than working. I’ve reconnected with my family, I’ve gained true, long-lasting friendships that I never thought were possible before. My attitude and approach to life in general has changed immensely. (Of course some would argue that I am still a bit of a jerk…and I’d agree…I am still a BIT of a jerk, but I’m nothing like I used to be). I’ve learned to take pleasure in simplicity and to embrace the opportunities to simply do nothing.

…nothing

That is seriously all I’ve done since my staycation started. But generally speaking my staycation has consisted of me NOT waking up to an alarm clock, and not knowing what the day has in store.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I would encourage you if you’re a work-a-holic to embrace the weekends, that’s where it all starts. True work-a-holics have no idea what a weekend is. You’ll find when you start to embrace those two days off (no matter when they fall in our week) that you’ll start to see there is more to life then work.

I’m so over being a work-a-holic that I may lead the drive for America to become a 4 day work week country, like many other countries around the world! :-P

As for the rest of my staycation, who knows. I’m open to anything.

10 Reasons You SHOULD see Hancock

Posted by Will Young

I’m going to start something new here at UI. I see movies semi-frequently and for a while I’ve been looking for a unique way to review those movies on the blog. I figured I’d do 10 reasons why you SHOULD or SHOULD NOT see whatever movie it is. They’ll be listed in least important to most (according to me). Hopefully it’ll be comical, and give you a basis for seeing or not seeing the movie. I guess I’ll see how this works. (And so, I don’t get a crap load of e-mails: Yes, I’m sure this has been done before, I don’t care and I certainly don’t need you to comment, or e-mail me and tell me it has.)

The first movie to receive a 10 reasons is Hancock.

Hancock stars Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman.

10 reasons you SHOULD see Hancock:

10.) You’ve already seen Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk so seeing this summer’s third super hero related flick is sort of required.
9.) Will Smith independence day flicks have become a part of your July 4th regimen.
8.) You’re not bothered by extensive use of “4 letter words.”
7.) Appendages being chopped off, and/or being placed in places they shouldn’t be placed sounds like something that might interest you.
6.) House, M.D. is one of your favorite shows.
5.) You, like me, could really care less about what people think about you, thus making it easy for you to relate to the main character.
4.) If in your opinion a little bit of action, mixed with comedy, and a twist you TOTALLY weren’t expecting, but are able to catch half-way through always makes for a great film.
3.) You can relate to being called an asshole, and how incredibly ticked off it makes you.
2.) You think that Charlize Theron has an amazing ability to play every roll she’s in amazingly.
1.) The critics told you the movie sucked.

I loved Hancock, of course I’m a huge fan of Will Smith anyway, but I’ve been reading nothing but terrible reviews since the movie debuted, and I’ve got to be honest. For the most part, the critics are completely wrong. Don’t take my word for it, Hancock is in theaters now, go check it out!
